Iran Authorities Arrest Instagram Star for Alleged Blasphemy, Promoting Violence

Tehran authorities arrested an Iranian Instagram star on accusations of promoting violence and blasphemy. The influencer, who is known as Sahar Tabar on Instagram but has been identified as Fatemeh Kh, is also accused of illicit education, insulting the Islamic veil, spreading hatred, and encouraging youths to corruption, according to CNN, citing semi-official Iran news agency Tasnim News.

Sahar Tabar was detained as per the Tehran's guidance court's orders, which Tasnim said deals with "cultural crimes and social and moral corruption."

The social media star shot to fame with her regular posts on Instagram, the only major social media network not banned in Iran. Her photos show a seemingly zombie version of actress Angelina Jolie and many believe this was the look the influencer was going for with her sunken cheeks, an exaggeratedly upturned nose, and large pouty lips.

Some pictures even show a white plaster on Sarah Tabar's nose, similar to the ones that plastic surgery patients wear, CNN says.

The news agency adds that in 2017, the influencer became a minor viral sensation when several news outlets published stories about her that claimed she went through 50 cosmetic surgeries and weighed only 88 pounds.

Sahar Tabar debunked the claims the media made about her in an interview with Russian news agency Sputnik.

"It is Photoshop and makeup," she said. "Every time I publish a photo I make my face more fun. It is my way of self-expression, a kind of art. My followers know that this is not my real face."

She also denied the claims about going under multiple procedures and that she was within a normal weight range.

The IG star also addressed the reports that she was attempting to copy Jolie's look, saying she "had no interest at all to be like Angelina Jolie" nor did she want to look like the character from the Tim Burton animated movie "Corpse Bride."

"I understand that I do have some similarities with them, but I am my own muse and I did not want to look like anyone," she said. "That was not my aim."
