Abandoned Dog Gets Rescued— And He Can't Stop Smiling

Sandford was hit by a car and shot by his cruel owners, as well as spent a week in a municipal shelter without any medical assistance, reports Natalie Morris of the UK’s highest-circulating newspaper Metro. Covered in a road rash and with the bullet still embedded in his body, Sandford could not eat or walk. Sanford’s life changed for the better when animal rescue group Dallas Dog RRR found him, sending out a desperate call to rehome the poor dog “before he was due to be put down.”

Dallas Dog RRR wrote on Facebook, “We can’t imagine the pain he has been in. But we are going to try to help him. PLEASE! Please help him… we need your help for this guy.” The group posted photos of Sandford slumped on the ground and propped against the wall, with a desolate expression on his face. A vet checked on Sandford and, fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening.

The post was shared 1,500 times and garnered hundreds of comments. Someone volunteered to take Sandford home. The dog was treated by a vet and was rehomed by his new foster mom, Karen Velazquez. Since Sandford arrived at his new home, he could not stop smiling, as he was delighted to be somewhere “safe, warm, and loving.” However, Velazquez states that Sandford is still looking for a permanent home because she “can only house him temporarily.”

But commenters on Facebook are attempting to change her mind. One user said, “I hope he can stay with you forever. He’s a beautiful dog and you make him so happy.” Another one writes, “What a wonderful dog! I hope he can stay with you to spend his last years! It’s great to see him so happy!” Even if Velazquez cannot keep Sandford in the long run, it’s great to see the adorable pooch happy and healthy.
