If you want to prevent bloating from happening, you could pick foods that are filled with potassium. RedBook Magazine, an American women’s magazine, explained on their website that this mineral works perfectly together with sodium since it aids in regulating the fluid balance in the body. 

Abbey Sharp, R.D., a blogger at Abbey’s Kitchen, explained that foods with high-potassium foods include bananas, oranges, and asparagus. Asparagus contains asparagines, which is an amino acid that functions as a diuretic that helps in flushing out excess fluid in the body.

Shut Your Mouth When Chewing

This is also one of the eating etiquettes that people should practice. Aside from being a respectful gesture in front of a meal, keeping your mouth shut when eating will also be helpful in preventing bloating. When a person chews with their mouth open, they swallow excess air. Chewing gum can also lead to bloating.

Pass On the Carbs

While it is never healthy to cut the carbs all together, as this might make your diet imbalanced and give you a weaker metabolism, the food group, which includes starches, such as bread and pasta, can cause the body to retain water. This is why it is suggested that foods that contain carbs must be avoided before bedtime unless you want to wake up feeling fluffy.

Aside from the excess sugars, sodas also contain bubbles that make the stomach to expand. Jeannie Gazzaniga-Moloo, R.D., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, said that it is better for people to stick to plain water. The sucralose in these carbonated drinks is also a common culprit of bloating. Delish, a website that provides helpful articles about foods, mentioned that this ingredient is also capable of reducing the number of healthy bacteria found in the gut, which in turn creates the extra gas.

Treat the PMS Symptom

Medical News Today, an online portal for articles about health and medicine, stated that period bloating happens when a woman experiences a heavy and swollen abdomen. This usually occurs before and at the start of their period. 

According to the report by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, about 85 percent of women experience PMS symptoms. This occurs due to the changes that are happening at the levels of the sex hormones, progesterone and estrogen. One should avoid salty foods and instead, have some foods that are rich in potassium.

Lemon water is a refreshing beverage during the hot season. Adding lemon slices in the water can do a lot of things aside from adding some zest to your simple water. This beverage is also helpful in preventing bloating if taken after each meal. Frank Lipman, M.D., said, “Bitter foods like lemon help stimulate your body’s GI juices and aid the start of the digestion process.”

Fighting bloating can be as simple as moving around and doing some exercises. A simple walk for at least 15 to 20 minutes each day can be helpful in preventing constipation because it aids in keeping the food moving through the digestive tract. Exercising will cause you to sweat and release excess fluids.
