Woman Quits Her Job and Finds Her Missing Border Collie After 57 Days

On July 20, Carole King from Washington state was having a great time with her husband and border collie Katie near Glacier Lake National Park in Montana when the dog escaped the hotel, reports Jimmy McCloskey of the U.K.’s highest-circulating newspaper Metro. Carole and her husband spent hours to find Katie, but their search proved fruitless.

For weeks, Carole posted 500 fliers, spread the word about Katie online, and installed motion-detection cameras “in areas where the dog had been sighted.” She resigned from her job to devote her time to find Katie, speculating that the dog might have escaped from the hotel “after being spooked by a storm.” On September 15, a man contacted Carole stating that he saw a dog “matching Katie’s description” in her yard. Unfortunately, it was gone when the couple arrived.

Moments later, Carole reunited with Katie after walked up to her as she was handing out fliers. Carole tells Oregon-based major daily newspaper Statesman Journal and Montana-based newspaper The Daily Interlake, “As the lady was walking back, she points over to the tree where it’s real dark and says, ‘Is that your dog?’” as quoted by Mackenzie Reiss. Carole turned and it really was Katie. She coaxed her pet, “Katie. Katie girl!” The seven-year-old collie responded, which made Carole overjoyed. “I just bear-hugged her, I wasn’t going to let her go. Tears were flying, we were screaming, everybody is high-fiving, hugging each other,” she states.

People stopped their vehicles, got out, and hugged the pair. Carole speculates that the whole neighborhood knew she finally found Katie. Carole took the collie to the veterinarian for a checkup. According to the veterinarian, the dog lost 12 pounds and was dehydrated and starving. Presently, Katie is on a special diet in which she is fed with “small amounts of food every two hours” to recondition her stomach to eat regularly.
