Young Man Disguises Himself as a Senior Citizen to Fly to the U.S.

32-year-old Jayesh Patel had the most impressive and almost fool-proof disguise, as he sported a white beard, oversized glasses, and a wheelchair, report Maureen O’Hare and Swati Gupta of American television news channel CNN. He also wore a white tunic and trousers, with a white turban and black slippers. Patel acted like a frail, elderly man who was hoping to “get on an overnight flight to New York” around 10:45 p.m. on September 8.

However, his cover was blown when he caught the attention of the staff at India’s busiest airport, New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Patel “proved reluctant to be frisked” by the airport’s screener, notes senior official with the Central Industrial Security Force Shrikant Kishore. The screener asked Patel to stand up from his wheelchair. Patel said he could not stand, to which the screener asked if “he would stand with support.” The man still hesitated to stand up.

Then, the security officer noticed that the roots were black, which clearly did not match Patel’s white beard and hair. Apparently, Patel was also trying hard to avoid the officer’s eyes. The passenger handed his passport when he was asked to present it. Patel claimed he was Amrick Singh from Delhi, who was born in February 1938, making him 81 years old. Kishore states otherwise, “He was definitely not 80 years old. His skin was of a younger person.”

Patel was questioned by the security staff, prompting him to admit his real name and age. The young man was detained by security and handed over to immigration authorities, as he was holding a fake passport. Kishore informs CNN that he neither knows about the case’s current status nor Patel’s rationale for masquerading as an elderly man.

According to Helen Murphy of celebrity and human interest news site People, Patel was later under the custody of police officials “for further action,” as explained by a spokesperson for the Central Industrial Security Force.
