Acceptance and being regarded as a part of a group is something that we all want to be. Being branded as part of the LGBT community, pedophiles want to change the wrong stigma that was imposed upon them until today. This has been going around for years. While dozens of anti-pedophiles vouch for the separation of these individuals, one fact remains in this particular resolve. Sexual abuse or harassment towards children including infants in any form is unacceptable through whatever means or even through unintentional incidents.
Sexual attraction to minors
This is not the first time that people have attempted to redefine pedophilia as a sexual orientation that should be included in the LGBT community.
In 2010, two Canadian psychologists said that pedophilia is a sexual orientation. “True pedophiles have an exclusive preference for children, which is the same as having a sexual orientation. You cannot change this person’s sexual orientation.” Van Gijseghem, a psychologist and retired University of Montreal professor, told Parliament.
A pedophile group is trying to destigmatize pedophilia by calling themselves “Minor-Attracted Persons” (MAPs) rather than pedophiles.
Gay groups are up against various support groups that are pro pedophiles which induce disagreement towards the community claiming in the process that they are a part of them, even having gone so far as to create their own version of the rainbow flag for Gay Pride Month. This comes as no surprise.
In essence, the MAP group is attempting to re-brand themselves to the gay community, which, for the sake of political – and judicial – expediency, which distanced themselves from the society beginning a few decades ago.
For the last dozen years or so, the gay rights movement has focused the fight for what may appear to many to be conservative issues: winning same-sex marriage and the right to openly serve in the military.
Rebranding under LGBT
Normalizing pedophiles, for some, is the natural progression for the LGBT agenda. They’re here. They want your kids near.
Pedophiles are naming themselves as “MAPs” or “Minor Attracted Persons” in an effort to gain acceptance and be included into the LGBT community. The “MAP/NOMAP community” is claiming that pedophiles are misunderstood marginalized people and that as long as their attraction to children is not acted upon — or in some cases when they get permission from the child — that they should not be villainized nor be considered sex offenders.
Many blogs exist on Tumblr showing support for MAPs, claiming that they should be a part of the LGBT community and attempting to create “safe spaces” for these “minor-attracted persons”. The blog “Pedophiles about Pedophilia” also presents many stories of “marginalized” pedophiles in a facade of colors, claiming that they mean no harm and just want to be loved like everyone else.
The only normalizing of pedophiles should be the way we normally throw them in a cell. Having sex with children is a crime. It is an abuse, whatever means they do it. Some people really incur total disagreement to this case. Others provide resentment and intense dissatisfaction to the group. Imagine, occasionally letting them out in the yard with a sign reading “I like to sex up children.” While the guards all normally take the break and do nothing till it’s too late.
A multitude of mixed reactions spun the LGBT community especially those who are advocates of the MAP. However, not all Pedophiles are child molesters or abusers. They just simply tend to have a ‘liking’ for children. The attraction may range from infants to adolescent kids. So what now?
These are disturbing and expresses deep debacle between two sides and while some consistently aim to promote them, majority of the group remain bemused to this situation.
The Prevention Network aims to rebrand pedophilia as a non-dangerous attribute of “Minor-Attracted Persons,” who look but don’t touch, utilizing stories and testimonials to humanize would-be child molesters.
Pedosexual: a Natural orientation
German medical student, Mirjam Heine sparked an online backlash after telling an audience that “pedophilia is an unchangeable sexual orientation, just like… heterosexuality.”
She gave a lecture in defense of pedophiles during the “independently organized” TEDx Talk at the University of Würtzberg in Germany in May.
“Anyone could be born a pedophile,” she told them.
According to the medical student, pedophilia is just another “unchangeable sexual orientation just like, for example, heterosexuality.” Heine asked her audience to differentiate between sexual attraction to children and child sexual abuse which she believes are two opposing topics and while the latter should not be tolerated as involuntary “feelings”.
She further said heterosexuality and pedophilia were both orientations, while saying pedophilia can be classified as “heterosexual,” “homosexual,” and “bi-sexual.” She instigated that a non-pedophile could sexually abuse a child, while also proving her definition of pedophiles as people attracted, to a lesser extent, to children. And although she seems to think people are “born” pedophiles, she also said pedophilia has biological, social, and psychological factors.
For Heine, pedophilia is not something that someone actually sees as a sexual preference that they would “live out freely,” just like the rest of us who share equally the same rights as people.
Heine stressed that social isolation of pedophiles is an important factor in how likely they are to sexually assault children. But to her, “social isolation” means not just being without parents or friends – it meant more on the pedophile’s reluctance to tell them about his sexual inclinations.
Openness about one’s sexual feelings is crucial to Heine. She believes that a pedophile should not feel excluded and isolated, but rather acknowledged, tolerated, and accepted. Hence, his “orientation” may possibly be a key to prevent child sexual assault.
Central to Heine’s argument is that pedophiles are not to blame for their feelings and thoughts, only for their actions. She does not, however, address the topic of pornography at the same time, while arguing that pedophiles cannot change their “feelings,” she encouraged her audience to change their own feelings of revulsion for pedophiles.
“Just like all of us, it is our responsibility to overcome our negative feelings about pedophiles and treat them with the same respect we treat other people with.”
There are also NOMAPs or “Non-Offending Minor Attracted Persons” who reportedly don’t act on their attractions. “Just because someone is attracted to a child does not mean they are automatically going to sexually abuse them,” The Prevention Project said.
A story further shared by Lifesite involves a pedophile who struggles with depression.
As having no relations with a stranger, “John” felt desperate for help consulting a therapist claiming he had NO desire to harm anyone, ever. However, once he shared about his attraction to children, his therapist told him, “I don’t treat sex offenders.”
To be clear, "John" is not a child molester nor is he a sex offender. He has an attraction to children. People who are like “John” who are considered a pedophile simply puts himself in a position where he is branded as someone who molests children but in reality he doesn’t even have the desire to sexually harm anyone. He is also fervent about helping prevent child sexual abuse by speaking out against it and by showing his support of global child sexual abuse prevention programs on his social media. "John" deserves support as do others who have a minor attraction. After all, isolation and depression are known to increase one's risk of doing something they might regret.
This new term is being used in order to distance themselves from the toxicity of the connotation of the word “pedophile” and become a part of the LGBT community.
The MAP community claims that pedophiles are “misunderstood, marginalized people,” much like the LGBT community, according to The Daily Caller.
